Galatians 1:11-12 NASB For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

When my husband tells a corny joke, I say, “You sound just like your dad” (or maybe his Gramps, it’s a family tradition). When my husband starts talking about all the germs going around this season and worrying our son might get sick, I say, “You sound just like your grandma!” (Love you, Grandma!)

The people around us influence our opinions and our speech; and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But when it comes to the Gospel, are we preaching the Gospel revealed to us by the Holy Spirit and God’s Holy Word, or are we parroting a gospel we’ve heard from man? Paul wanted to make clear to the church in Galatia that the Gospel he preached was revealed to him by Jesus Christ. There were other people at the time that were trying to pervert the Gospel for their own purposes (Galatians 1:6-9) and Paul wanted them to recognize the difference!

When we’re unsure if our beliefs come from man or from God, there are some good ways we can check: prayer and the Word of God!
