Isaiah 53:5 NASB  But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.

Today I had my hair pulled, I was pinched, I was scratched and I even got hit in the head with a remote control. And who was inflicting all of this abuse on me? Why, my one year old son of course! He doesn’t hurt me on purpose, but when I try to tell him “No, that hurts Mama” he usually laughs! Someday he’ll be old enough to understand what he’s doing and I will just have to endure it in the meantime.

Christ endured pain and suffering far beyond what we can imagine. And the Scriptures say that He did that for us. For our sins. He knew that pain and death were coming and He chose to endure out of love for us. Christ prayed on the cross “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”  (Luke 23:34a NASB) He didn’t wait for us to understand His sacrifice. He died for us while we were yet sinners.
