Matthew 26:39 NASB And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”

“A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America,” for an amount up to and including their life.” -Unknown

I read the above quote about veterans yesterday and it really moved me. The brave men and women in our armed forces don’t know what the outcome of their service will be, but they sign up to serve anyway. Their bravery is commendable and I want to say thank you to each of them today!

When Christ prayed “not as I will, but as You will” in the Garden of Gethsemane, he was signing a blank check, too. The difference is that He knew what the ultimate outcome would be, and he still signed it! He knew God’s ultimate plan was that He would serve as the sacrifice for our sins. When they came to arrest Him, He did not resist, He had already signed up to serve.
