John 6:26-27 (NASB) “Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”

At our women’s meeting at church, we were talking about trying to be healthier, and one of the ladies suggested having a healthy cooking demonstration for one of our meetings. My response: “Do we get to eat the food? Then maybe I’ll come.”

The crowds following Jesus early in his ministry were in it for the food, too (feeding of the five thousand). They weren’t there because they believed He was the Messiah, they weren’t sure what to believe about His outlandish claims. But if we want Jesus to change our life, then we have to get past the short-term “what’s in it for me” attitude and trust that what we really need, only He can give.
