Luke 4:1-2a,13  NASB Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. 13When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.

As many times as we reprimand her, our dog just loves to lick our son. She would never try to lick us, but she is always looking for an opportune time to lick him! I don’t know if it just because he is a toddler and always smells like food, but the fact that he never tells her “no” doesn’t help!

Jesus resisted every temptation the devil presented Him with, so the devil left. But that didn’t mean the devil wouldn’t continue to look for opportunities to tempt Him in the future. We need to always be vigilant in resisting the devil’s temptations. If one thing doesn’t work, he will be looking for another opportunity later. The good news is that God wants to help us defeat the devil’s temptations!

James 4:7 NASB Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
