Rev. 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you. And you will eat with me.
There’s a story about an older woman who ran out of money. She couldn’t pay her rent. She couldn’t pay any of her bills. The landlord had threatened to throw her out if she didn’t soon pay her rent. She had only a candle to keep her warm, and on Christmas Day she warmed her hands over the candle. There was a knocking at her door and she was afraid to answer for fear that it was the landlord coming to kick her out. She blew out her candle and sat quietly in the dark and waited for the intruder to leave. Weeks later, after she lost her house, she found out that the knocking on her door was the knock of a friend who had come to bring her enough money to pay her rent and pay her debts.
I wonder how many how many times the gentle Savior has knocked on our door desiring to come in and free us from the burdens of our sin, and to lift the burden we’re carrying, but sadly, we have ignored His knocking?
Lord Jesus, this is Dennis, my greatest fear is that my heart will be hardened so that it won’t be tender toward You and the Holy Spirit. I need you desperately to daily speak to me through Your word and by Your Spirit!
